A wild “Maitake” strain cultured from an early bird at the end of august here in southeast Michigan when they are particularly rare and vulnerable to insects. We watched this young bird closely as it came up and exploited the opportunity to capture a strain not as reliant on colder fall temperatures to fruit. Our assumption was correct and this strain easily forms primordia over 70 degrees F, for those with environmental limitations this is a perfect strain of Hen of the Woods to have in your lab!
